The HERO Coalition

The Waconia HERO Coalition is a community group whose mission is to "mobilize community-wide efforts to reduce and/or prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among youth through education, youth and parental engagement, and policy change." Founded in 2010, The HERO Coalition works to discover new ways to help youth learn to treat others with respect and make healthy and positive choices.

In 2014, the Waconia HERO Coalition was awarded the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Grant providing $625,000 of funding over five years. This money goes towards creating a community where all youth are valued, celebrated, and empowered for living healthy, substance-abuse free lives.

Waconia High School SADD

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is a national program that envisions a world in which young people make positive decisions that advance their health and safety, and who's mission is to empower young people to successfully confront the risks and pressures that challenge them throughout their daily lives.

Waconia High School's SADD is a group of approximately 50 students yearly who educates their peers on the dangers associated with destructive decisions (e.g. underage drinking, drug use, etc.). Waconia SADD students host several annual campaigns and events for the student body, including: Red Ribbon Week, Safety and Smart Decisions Campaigns around Prom season, etc.
